Taking care of business

Up she popped, as is her wont, and asked why I haven't been posting. My response - been bloody busy - didn't quite cut it. Yet her generosity allowed her to be sympathetic. And I thought maybe I should keep things moving -- for instance by taking care of a couple of tags.

***

So for Lekhni, here's a list of five things I hope to achieve in the next five years:
- Tenure
- Lots of citations (300 sounds like a nice round number)
- New relationships
- A long road trip with friends
But mainly
- Stability

And one of five things I miss:
- Being able to see my friends whenever I wanted
- Going downstairs to play
- Sleeping by the hum of the giant khus-filled desert cooler
- That sense of absolute security
But most of all, and more than anything else, I miss
- Those who have gone

***

And, for Szerelem, a special photo that I clicked last year.

Nice list. And I love the photo - the number plate of course, but also the stickers.

Someone needs to develop khus coolers and import them to the US. I *totally* miss the fragrance and of course, singing into the cooler fan for that choppy tremolo effect.

A long road trip with friends

Say, a beat-up VW bus, some tie-dye shirts and awesome mix tapes.....

thanks :-) there's also a recycle symbol with "one man gathers what another man spills" going round it, and a hand print of j. garcia in the rear side window. plus someone has promised me a "buri nazar waale tera muh kala" decal (although someone else pointed out that's racist) to go with the number plate and the nimbu-mirchi keychain dangling from the rear view mirror. you'll know me when you see me.

km:
absolutely! i used to love that low hum.

and yeah, tie-dyes and mix cds will enter into the picture all right - not so sure about the vw bus though.

km: surely you mean, 'rad mix tapes'?

tr: intrigued by the tribal ritual on the right - what is it? and you're forgetting the chappal! how could you!

n!:
how about you organize the trip and we both cite each other everywhere. deal?

sb:
tribal ritual is right. the dancing bears are an integral part of grateful dead iconography, and the terrapins part of the symbolism as well. the raven has been thrown in as artistic license.

i did consider the chappal, long and hard, but decided i didn't want to have to add footwear ice-desculpting to car-shoveling every time we get some overnight frost.

space bar: indeed. 'rad Mix tapes. That's like, totally, rad like.

And my mixtapes will have all favorite songs recorded at wrong speeds. That's even more rad.

A search for "raven" at

http://www3.clearlight.com/~acsa/intro.htm

threw up :

Black Throated Wind
Think a raven thinks coyotes should learn how to fly

Easy To Love You
Real as a raven; real as thunder; real as the sun shining

Hard Time
Coal black raven at the window sill

I Need A Miracle
Statuesque, raven-tressed, a goddess of the night

Mexicali Blues
She had raven hair, a ruffled dress, a necklace made of gold

cute(,) but(t)(,) what, no fish?

so i suppose this kind of plate one doesn't have to renew or pay extra for, right? its just cosmetic?

that's not rad, that's wrang.

wfs:
sure, but do you *really* think that's why it's there?!

tgfi:
i lost interest in phish a long time back - 1999.

unfortunately one does have to renew and pay a little extra for these "vanity plates". but worth it to me!
